STARCHILD

Starchild's career has taken him through many areas of creative culture. Growing up in the notorious Highfields area of Leicester, he experienced the streets first hand- from the gang violence to the racial tension to the vibrant music scene. This time of change has had a strong influence on his work.

Music plays a big part in his work. He is a big collector (and DJ) of jazz, funk, soul and disco, and this has a heavy influence on his artwork, each piece being named after a favourite song.

Starchild's paintings are the culmination of his lifelong immersion in popular street culture: Unique, bold and bristling with a restless energy, they are a combination of vibrancy with an undercurrent of dark threat, and are a true reflection of his many creative influences and how he sees life itself.
